  • monthly email newsletter with important changes, considerations, upcoming events, deadlines
  • one-on-one advising sessions to talk abt questions, course schedule
  • advisor Q&A group sessions multiple times a semester
  • meet-up events at the end of semester

Program format:

  • 36 hrs, 11 courses, 10 normal(3credits) and 1 practicum(6credits)
  • 3 semesters/terms per year: fall(aug-dec), spring(jan-may), summer(may-aug)
  • not all courses offered in summer, depends on schedule
  • students can register min 1 course per semester, up to 6 years to finish
  • lessons viewed any time during the week once released
  • office hours for questions
  • canvas system for all course work
  • online proctoring exams
  • graded project/exams in syllabus before course begins

Tech requirements:

  • need new computer, we’re gonna be running virtual machines
  • backup syncing (gatech provides 1tb with onedrive)
  • good network connection
  • all identity management is at passport.gatech.edu
  • have to check email DAILY, add gatech to safe senders list
  • free office 365 subscription, use microsoft teams for collaboration
  • have a gatech VPN
  • check ppt for free software, library, linkedinlearning, and academic discounts
  • keep gatech edu email for rest of life
  • keep gtID secure don’t share it around

Buzzport:

  • buzzport.gatech.edu -> get all links from PPT
  • oscar: registration & course schedule portal (can’t register for things outside your program)
  • degreeworks - check curriculum requirements, grades, use for employment verification
  • Canvas:
    • dashboard & to-do
    • courses (includes past courses!! - unstar to remove from dashboard)
      • access to course 1 week before sem starts
      • getting started: review info, then start course activities
      • join discussion forums (piazza or ed)
      • honorock: proctoring requires google chrome
    • calendar, you can color code and toggle what to see, link to 3rd party calendar feed
    • help chat, canvas guides

Curriculum

  • introductory
  • YOU CAN DO 2 or 3 TRACKS BY TAKING EXTRA ELECTIVES!!!!
  • you can graduate and then come back and take extra courses, later on in your career after you graduate!!!
  • NEEEEEED TO BE SOLID ON PREREQUISITES!!!!!
  • check the advance standing and opt-out option (you have to fill out a form)
  • require a lot of time commitment, participate in office hours, engage with the community!!!
  • be mindful of drop/add, withdraw, registration and payment deadlines
  • ACTUALLY READ the emails, they’re not spam
  • get ready early - install software/troubleshoot ahead of time
  • ASK FOR HELP IF YOU NEED - faculty, TA, peers, admin: OMSA advisors
  • flexible withdrawal schedule (more than halfway through semester) PREREQS!!!!!

Registration

  • course DROP: during registration first friday at 4 o’clock, just adding/dropping class, receive refund for payment for course
  • course WITHDRAWAL: you PAY FOR THE COURSE and withdraw halfway through, it will appear on your transcript, you might be eligible for a pro-rated refund depending on your payment plan, but don’t bank on it

  • august 16 - time tickets for registration ISSUED
  • august 17 - registration opens
  • august 22 - first day of classes
  • august 26 - drop/add ends (4PM!!!)
  • august 29 - payment deadline (4PM!!!)
  • october 29 - withdrawal deadline (4PM!!!)
